Genesis 11
1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
What was the offense that caused the Hand of God to act in this case?
Genesis 1
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Genesis 8
16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.
Man had been given several sets of orders that revealed God’s desire for him to fill the whole earth, to replenish it. In Genesis 11 we see man doing the exact opposite. Man is making his own plans and implementing his own designs.
What were they thinking?!!
I was in prayer over this and the Holy Spirit opened a very simple but very precious truth to me. The people of that time were only a few generations away from the flood. The generations after the children of Noah: They knew what God could do and in their plans of rebellion, they included a refuge from the possibility of a flood. They were planning and designing according to the wisdom of man. The first Tower Of Babel was an was an outward expression of mans Independence and his desire to be independent of God. They knew they were in rebellion and were making the best plans they could to save themselves from the execution of God’s judgement. It was very simple, God flooded the earth once, let us build a shelter to run into if it happens again. How silly are the plans of man. If they knew God at all they would have known that He promised not to flood the earth again. This location is listed in the Bible as a focal point of rebellion against the plan of God and exalting man. You see examples in Daniel 3 and in Zechariah 5.
It seems that we cannot learn or we are too easily blinded by the prince of this world. I see the fathers of the European Union bringing another Tower of Babel into operation.

I was looking up links and sat amazed as I looked at all the similar material online that I felt given to me by the Spirit. I believe that there are many believers who had been given this truth. The battle line between the Word of God and the designs of man have been clearly defined. Again, they build with the purpose and plan of undermining God and His Word. To exalt the achievements of man’s knowledge and his self sufficiency.
I Corinthians
1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
chapter 3
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
I think back about 20 years ago to the Texas Super Collider Project : we were so close to moving forward with a similar project here in my own home state. The excitement and the prospects for jobs and the work was a dream come true for many. The sorrow of the loss when the project was cancelled overwhelmed many. Now I see it as the Hand of God keeping us back from our own self destruction.
God has given bounds to all His creation. The seas, the animals, times and seasons all have constraints that they obey. Man in his rebellion has pushed the envelope of God’s restrictions many times. If we know God through His Word, it is not difficult to see where the Hand of God will intervene to bring things back into His Divine Order. We must know and line up with that Word He has given to be in fellowship with Him.
John 14
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
Beloved, God has gifted us with many great things. They are to be used to His glory and in line with His Word. It is not the technology, but the spirit behind the technology that makes this a rebellious act. Pray, seek Him out, read His Word.
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Daniel 12:3
